I’ve been looking for quick crochet ideas for small stocking stuffers to give out for Christmas. Quick enough to make a small army of (at least 30-40) without spending hours on each. So I decided to try White Rabbit designed by Allison at CRAFTYisCOOL of Conan Blimp fame. I made a few minor changes to make it zippier. I cheated a little by making the ears easier giving White Rabbit floppier comedy ears. And skipped the satin stitch and felt heart (for now). Otherwise, I followed it exactly. The pattern was very easy to follow! I especially liked the idea of using blush to color in Rabbit’s ears. Novel!

Here is the original design pattern that Allison made. (L) Along with mine! (R) I’ll be making Baby Mushroom, Tiny Jack, and Happy Heart Pin too.

white rabbit White Rabbit

Total Time: About 2.5hrs

Materials:
Caron Simply Soft in Off White [Size 4 Medium Weight]
Size E Hook [3.50mm]
Black Embroidery Floss
Darning Needle
Cotton Balls

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

I chose this yarn because 1)I had it. 2)It has a lovely soft sheen like mercerized cotton. So I thought it would be extra cute for White Rabbit! The only downside is Caron Simply Soft splits alot especially on a hook about 3 sizes smaller! Allison’s original pattern is in blue. My changes are in red.

Pattern:
Head and body:
Make an adjustable ring, ch 1, and sc 6 into ring.
R1: 2 sc each stitch (12)
R2: (2sc next st, sc next st)* rep around (18)
R3: (2sc next st, sc next 8 st)* rep around (20)
R4-10: sc each st (20) (I lightly stuffed the body at this stage.)
R11: sc into first 10 st, skip next 10 st (10)
R12: starting at 1st st of R11, sc into each st (10)
R13: sc each st (10)
R14: sc2tog around (5) (I stuffed the leg at this stage.)
Fasten off first leg. Stuff bunny firmly. Join yarn at 11th st of R10. Repeat R11-14 for second leg.
(To stuff the last leg I had to sorta make him do the splits and stuff him through the crotch. It was a tight fit.)

Ears (make 2):
Start by making a chain 8.
R1; sc into each front loop (7)
R2: do not flip, turn work and sc into each back loop (7)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. It should make a long U-shape.

Arms (make 2):
Make an adjustable ring, ch 1, and sc 6 into ring.
R1: (2sc next st, sc next st)* rep around (9)
R2: sc each st (9)
R3: dec 1 (8)
R4: dec 1 (7)
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Stuff arm and sew to side of body.

Finishing:
Using black embroidery thread, embroider eyes using a french knot. Come back up at same spot and make a french knot over the original to make the eye a little larger. Embroider nose and mouth as a big “x”.
Using pink embroidery thread, embroider nose using a satin stitch. (I skipped this and just dabbed some more blush on for the nose!)
Cut a small red heart from felt and either sew or glue to bunny’s chest. (Skipped this too for now.)
Shade white rabbit’s ears with blush. Done!
