Maker Faire NYCI’m falling asleep at the wheel! Last year I missed the Maker Faire and Singer Sewing Co. was there giving demos and lots of freebies. I heard from everyone who went that it was awesome! So this year I’m going to hustle it over there. I hope it’s as good this year! In short, the Maker Faire is good stuff for science, DIY, and fiber fanatics alike. 3rd Ward is going to be there too with all their crafty sciencey fun!

What is Maker Faire? It’s a traveling carnival of sorts. A huge DIY festival. Part carnival, part science fair, part hands-on extravaganza… A whirlwind festival to make, create, learn, invent, recycle, play and be inspired. We’ll be there with a Member Showcase and 3rd Ward Education Demos and workshops. DIY topics include photo-etching, patinas, microphone-making, bicycle sculpture, stop-motion animation, making furniture with cardboard and much, much more. Maker Faire is all that and more, as thousands of people gather to make, do, and play with the amazing things around us. –3rd Ward

Another bonus is it’s at the Hall of Science. A fun little place that’s shaped like a weird spiral. It’s been there since I was little. This science pavilion was built for the 1964 World’s Fair. It’s in Flushing Meadow Corona Park where the US Open is held at Arthur Ashe Stadium and the giant globe.

I first found out about it last year from The Mad Scientist, who had a booth there making 3D images! And he said first hand he saw many a wondrous invention like this 3D Printing machine, The MakerBot! It basically makes anything you can think of from a schematic!
